Today is National Banana Split Day, but more importantly, it’s the Feast of St. Louis IX, the patron saint of distillers. By all accounts, Louis IX was a pious and serious man when he ruled France in the 13th century, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that the celebration of his life has to be equally pious and serious – I mean, distillery!
It is super appropriate, then, that just this week, scientists announced that they have cracked the DNA code for the yeast that pre-dates the yeast used to make modern lagers. Just in time for the Feast of St. Louis IX! Science and religion peacefully unite – all thanks to beer!
