Today is a slow, slow news day in the world of food. It’s National Oatmeal Cookie Day – oatmeal cookies are iconic enough to have their own day, in my expert opinion, but kind of boring, no?
In 1863, there was a riot – all women – in Salisbury, North Carolina, brought on by the lack of flour and salt available in the Confederacy. I imagine that by 1863, the Confederate women were pretty frustrated.
And that’s about it. No flour, no salt, but plenty of oatmeal.
So to celebrate? Do something exciting. Anything exciting. Maybe make some history of your own, so next March 18th is a little more dramatic.
