Old School Thursday: Capitalism At Its Best Edition

Today is National Shrimp Scampi Day and I like shrimp scampi, so I’m not going to complain.

In other news, today in 1988, McDonald’s announced that it was joining the Glasnost effort by opening 20 restaurants in Moscow. And one year later, industrial designer Donald Deskey passed away. While he wasn’t a food figure, really, he did design the packaging for Tide laundry detergent and Crest toothpaste, both of which are pretty iconic, and I have a soft spot for designers who understand the power of a good brand.

So, to celebrate? Shrimp scampi-topped burgers? With a chaser of toothbrushing and Tide penning, of course.
