The Cycle of Life, Restaurant-Style

Since yesterday afternoon, Elizabeth Large has posted a bunch of information about local openings and closings. In the positive column, tomorrow Crush will open in the old Taste spot at Belvedere Square. Crush is owned by the Daniel half of Christopher Daniel in Timonium. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed that it does well, especially since it's so close to my house.

On a sadder note, there are a couple of notable upcoming closings. Zodiac, on Charles just north of the train station, and Northwoods in Annapolis. Oddly enough, I've never been to either, though I've heard amazing things about both. It's especially strange, really, that I never went to Northwoods, since it's been in West Annapolis for 23 years and I have had a lot of dinners out during those 23 years.

No, not Zodiac! I thought I hated the streetscaping on that block before (they cut down all the trees on that stretch of Charles Street this spring, just as they were starting to bloom - it was tragic), but I really hate it now. Zodiac has been one of my favorites for years.

Oh no, not Zodiac! I have to go soon for old times sake. Hope I don't get pushed down the stairs by that "ghost".

Zodiac is well loved! Oh no!

I was never impressed with Taste... I know that's so taboo.. but the food wasn't that great to me. I look forward to another restaurant, though I think too high end in Belv Square may not work. Any idea on what Crush will be like?

I really wish I'd made it to Zodiac!

I don't really know anything about what to expect at Crush, except what I read on EL's blog. The name refers to crushing grapes, so I assume they'll be at least somewhat wine-centric.

But, Meghan, I don't think it's taboo AT ALL not to like Taste. I was never impressed at all, either, and honestly, I don't know anybody who really was. I really wanted to like the place, and tried it several times, but I was always somewhat underwhelmed by the food (and my husband had one BAD experience) and I thought the service was pretty poor.

I haven't been to Christopher Daniel, either, but by all reports it's a good restaurant with a nice bar and they seem to do well, despite a less-than-sexy location...
