Old School Thursday: Drink Up Edition

Today is a big day. Not that a lot of different things happened, but what did happen is pretty major.

It’s all about beer and Coke.

Today in 1842, Danish botanist Emil Christian Hansen was born. Talk about an unsung hero. During his lifetime, he “revolutionized” beer-making through the development of new methods to culture yeast, and by proving that there are different species of yeast. Maybe most importantly, he made his yeast culturing methods available – for free – to other brewers.

Then, in 1886, Coca-Cola was sold for the first time ever, at Jacob’s Pharmacy in Atlanta. Today is official Have a Coke Day. I’m assuming it’s also the unofficial Teach the World to Sing Day.

So beer and Coke. Kind of important from a beverage perspective.

Oh, yeah, and it’s National Coconut Cream Pie Day, too. So have a coke…and a beer…and some pie.
