Old School Thursday: Breakfast Is the Most Important Meal of the Day Edition

Good morning and happy National Coffee Cake Day! Coffee cake is such a nice way to start the day that I won’t even complain about it’s specificity and total lack of need to have a day on it’s own.

In other news, today is Will Keith Kellogg’s birthday (1860). His brother John Harvey Kellogg actually developed the cereals that made their name so famous, but Will founded the company that manufactured the cereals. Quite a family, those Kelloggs.

A couple of generations later, in 1933, today was surely a celebratory day, but for reasons that have nothing to do with breakfast. On April 7, 1933, 3.2% alcohol beer sales were allowed, as Prohibition eased its way off the books. Now, 3.2% isn’t exactly Resurrection strength, but I’m sure it was a very welcome addition to the beverage menu!

So today, to celebrate? Cornflakes and beer, of course!
