Today is a quiet one in food history, though it is National Apple Pie Day, which seems pretty significant. I’m actually surprised that apple pie’s national day of recognition is some random day in mid-May and not, I don’t know, the fourth of July. I mean, apple pie! America!
And that’s it, actually. One of my sources said that today was the second anniversary of the death of legendary Napa vintner Robert Mondavi, so I’d written a bunch about him, only to discover that he actually passed away on May 16, 2008, not May 13th.
You know what, though? That doesn’t mean you couldn’t have a glass of wine in his honor today. With your pie, of course.
