Old School Thursday: More Not-That-Exciting Summer Days

Summer really is slow season in the food innovations world. Today is also known as National Raspberry Cake Day and the St. Neot Day. (He’s the patron saint of fish. Not fishermen. Just fish. And no, I’ve never heard of St. Neot before, either.)

Today’s only actual historical item of note is somewhat interesting, though also somewhat random. Today in 1790, Samuel Hopkins of Vermont was granted the very first US patent. The patent was for a process to produce potash and pearlash – elements of soap and fertilizer and baking, respectively. Pearlash, the baking ingredient, acted in a manner similar to baking powder (which was not yet available), producing carbon dioxide in dough, allowing for “quick breads.”And that’s it. So, celebrate with a meal of fish, bread and raspberry cake, I guess?

Hi Kit,

Hope all is well.
I'm Alisha from Wowzio, and I'm excited to tell you about our new widget platform that helps bloggers increase readership and create more engaged users.
Our widgets are absolutely free for personal use (and we don't insert ads on your blog either).
We have released a few widgets recently that I think you'll find useful so I wanted to reach out to you to ask for your feedback (feel free to also install any widgets on your blog, if you feel they are a fit for you).

Our Photo Widget for example, automatically creates a slideshow for you from all the photos you post on your blog.
Photos are a great way to get new (and regular) readers to dive deeper into your blog and read more of your content.
We also have other widgets which should help increase traffic to your blog(Live Activity & Feed Widget).
You can check out widgets customized for your blog here:

I'm sorry for leaving this message via a comment, it's not at all our intent to spam you or sell something.
We'd love to hear your feedback about our widgets, and feel free to remove this comment! :)

Thanks,
Alisha Wright
