Old School Thursday: France & Chicago Edition

Wow. Today is a fairly week day in food history. It is National Chocolate Souffle Day, which is as good a reason as any to head to Les Folies and pre-order your dessert.

Besides that, today is the birthday of Michel de Montaigne (1553), a French essayist who sometimes wrote about food (he was French), saying “A man should not so much respect what he eats, as with whom he eats.”

And today marks the second anniversary of the closing of the Berghoff Restaurant, Chicago’s oldest (107 years).

But that’s it! Not a crazy day.
