Old School Thursdays: Beer & Peanuts Edition

To all my Richmond readers (I’m looking at you, Cail): today is for you! On January 24, 1935, the beer can was introduced in Richmond! The can itself was actually created by the American Can Company, and the beers in the first cans were Kreuger’s Finest Beer and Krueger’s Cream Ale, both made by the Gottfried Krueger Brewing Company, based in Newark, New Jersey.

Sounds like an excellent excuse for a good, old-fashioned, fraternity-style, “no kegs on campus” party.

Also, though I can’t seem to find a way to tie it into the beer, today is National Peanut Butter Day. Beer cans and peanut butter is the new beer and peanuts? Maybe? Anyone?

Thanks, of course, to

Was the beer can chicken introduced on January 25?

Most likely. And probably by an engineer.

VERY exciting! This could be a good excuse to switch from martinis to beers in a can for the day. (And by day, I mean totally after work.)

I'm sure you do mean after work.

Or maybe you should mention it to the partners. I mean, I'm sure they'd be more than willing to make today a holiday. Who needs to bill?
